As a child, Rayne Berks grew up in an orphanage located in Colorado. Her memories beforehand are very vague. Before the age of seven she can not recall anything. By the age of nine, Rayne was adopted by a family with two other children. Her new siblings were abusive, and never allowed her to play with them. Once her oldest sibling, Matthew, threw a rock at Rayne's head. He claimed that he was going to kill her because she tried to 'steal' his parents. To escape the abuse, Rayne read books and wrote short stories. Sometimes they were stories about happy things, but mostly about the horrid things she had experienced. At the age of 16 Rayne ran away. She wanted to escape. While walking down 16th Street, located in Downtown Denver, she met a man who claimed he would help her with all of her needs. He was a street performer. He did card tricks and pretended to hide coins in by-passer's ears. Rayne fell madly in love with him. He told her he would fix all of her problems and make her smile once again, much like he made the people on 16th Street Mall smile. However, her dream man got involved with bad people. He became addicted to drugs and beat Rayne constantly. Rayne once again tried to escape in her writings and readings. She stayed with the street performer for a long time. She put up with the abuse. After all, it was all she knew. One day the street performer came bursting into the house. Rayne could tell his mind was fuzzy with some type of narcotic. She was reading one of her favorite books titled, "Utopia." He grabbed her by the wrist and yanked the book from her. "If you keep on reading these books, one day you will become smarter than me! I can't have that!", he screamed. He ripped up her book and threw it in her face. That night, Rayne took the biggest beating she had ever had in her life. While he was beating her, she knew she needed to escape once again. When he finally passed out from over exerting himself, she slipped away and never came back to him. Rayne did not know where to go. However, she walked and hitched hiked as far as East as she could. She reached California and there she tried to settle down in Beckinfield. Here, she pretended to be a someone else, by taking the name Haywood. Now she is Rayne Haywood, a server at the local restaurant. And on her spare time, Rayne writes short stories and reads books.

I'm a carpenter/contractor and handyman here in Beckinfield. My father and I started this business a few years after my mom died and I dropped out of school cause I wasn't any good at it. I learned everything I know from How-To books and working with my dad. Been doing construction since I was 14. For fun sometimes I would go down to the local theater and volunteer as a rigger and a stagehand. I'd help them build the sets too. Was always fun to watch people pretending they're someone else! Anyway, gimme a call if you need anything fixed. My dad's suddenly gotten real sick and I need all the work I can get so I can take care of him.

I met a guy on-line (who will remain nameless) when I was in Beauty School back East. We started talkin' a couple times a week - ya know 2,3,4 hours a night. Finally, we decided that after I graduated and passed my certification that I would move out to Beckinfield so we could be together. He thought I could open a salon out here I mean who doesn't need a little touch of glamor? Business would be booming in no time right? Well that was several years ago. I still got my Salon. As for my man...he's goona come to his senses any day now and be runnin' back into my lovin' arms. You can't mess with true love and Our love is the real deal. I'm talkin' "The Notebook" kind a real.

A seventeen-year-old vagrant, Theo Cantor's ravenous appetite for the written word leads him to get sticky fingers around books even more than he does food. He is bookish in his way, but also highly active and impulsive. He obsesses over knowing the entire truth of things, and as such takes a great interest in other people, despite being generally uncomfortable around them. Furthermore, he is extremely resourceful, from his strategic predation of local eateries to his knack for improvising things he needs from junk he finds. Hobbies include reading and petty theft.

Greetings earthlings, I am Ella Winslow, possibly the most awkward, self-conscious, shy, yet witty, girl you will ever meet here in Beckinfield. Doubt me if you may, but my initials have to prove it-E.W.-the second daughter of my step dad’s, moms, grandmothers, aunt’s side of the family.
I am also smart, and I hope to leave the boring small town life and be president of these...err... Fifty states is it. Yes, fifty, that’s it! Don't tell anyone this but I am in love.... And I mean in love... With Ashton Kutcher, I swear it is a calm obsession; it's not as if I yell his name out in the Beckinfield library once every three nights.... Anyhow, thanks for reading this! In addition, I hope to be seeing YOU around here quite often.... Aha!

Sue Yen lived in a large old Victorian house facing Grant Park in Atlanta, Georgia in 1960. She was 12 years old, and her family had lived in that house since before the Great War, when her Great Grandmother, newly arrived in Atlanta from Beckinfield, California, had married into old money.
When she was 16, Sue Yen (not her real name) fell in love with a Beat Poet and the two of them ran off, ending up in a $10 a day flat on the cheap side of Hollywood Boulevard. It wasn't long, though, before he took off with a rich starlet, and Sue Yen had to make her own way. She landed a few roles, but without proper training or studio exec support, her life in Hollywood became a disappointment. She languished in minor roles and appearances, and with life in Hollywood expensive to maintain, she eventually slipped into the darker underbelly of the industry, performing nightly at gentleman's clubs and gambling halls. It was at this point that she fled Hollywood for Chicago, where she worked her way into the world of commerce, serving as executive assistant to powerful men crawling their way to the top.
One day, years later, she awoke with a rather nasty hangover in her condo overlooking the Lauderdale marina, when long buried childhood memories erupted into her consciousness. A place of her dreams. She grew up in a family dominated by a matriarch, her Grandmother, whom everyone called Grammy B. As a young girl, Sue Yen's Great Grandmother would tell her story after story of a place beyond the redwood forests called Beckinfield, a place where magical spirits gathered. She told of a sea monster who lived beneath the island point in the middle of a mist-laden lake, an ancient, water-filled crater formed perhaps by volcanic eruption or by an asteroid's collision. Grammy B said it was part of the mystery surrounding the lake and the town of Beckinfield.
Sue Yen looked around her at the tiresome sameness of the place, at the aging pot-bellied balding millionaire snoring in her bed. She quietly dressed, pack lightly, emptied her meager bank account, save for her secret Caribbean savings, and boarded a plane for San Francisco. Sue Yen arrived in Beckinfield to reclaim a long-lost past. But she only has memories to go on. She is determined to find happiness and to unravel the mysteries of stories of her childhood. She finds Beckinfield to be an odd little town full of strange people drawn her for some unknown purpose.
For a brief time, she lives in a small trailer home on the other side of the tracks, and a job working weekdays at the doctor's office. But soon finds a lovely little cottage home near the center of town. And just recently, she put the last of her funds into opening up a the Celestial Day Spa and Massage in an unused office in the back of the small medical office she'd been working at. It has its own entrance and enjoys a main street exposure.
Sue Yen is not a complicated girl, but she is full of passion and compassion. She's a bit on the wild and kooky side, having lived through the Beat Generation, the Hippies and Communes of the 60's, the Laissez-faire 70's, the over-indulgent 80's, and the Me Generation 90's. She loves to dance, drink a little fine wine, have a laugh, and an occasional love affair. But she's become a little cautious of the advances of the over-confident. While she's sometimes gullible, Sue Yen eventually finds her way to the truth, and hopes to meet up with the right guy in the end - just like in the movies. Will she find what she's looking for in Beckinfield?
